How to get the richest harvest of the Merchant

Zemklunika Kupchikha is a hybrid that has absorbed all the best from our favorite berries – strawberries and wild strawberries. The plant tolerates low temperatures and, with proper care, gives an amazing harvest – up to 500 grams per bush! How to achieve this – read the article.

Description of the variety

The merchant’s wife has earned her popularity among industrialists and ordinary gardeners due to large berries that tolerate transportation well. They can reach 3-6 cm in length and weigh up to 20 g each. The variety is well adapted to the climate of Belarus, perfectly tolerates low temperatures and is suitable for growing in all regions of the country.

Plant disadvantages

In the cultivation of the Merchant, there are several difficulties that simply pale in comparison to the merits of this culture. For instance:

  • a small amount of mustache;
  • berries are different in size and shape;
  • an abundance of peduncles – they need to be cut off to take control of the number of fruits.

Landing features

What will be the harvest of the dwarf worker depends not only on the varietal characteristics and quality of the seedlings. The responsibility also lies with the gardener.

Dates, place, soil

The merchant’s wife can be planted in the spring or from August to October. In some regions, the planting season may end earlier. The fruits are harvested in the first half of summer.

After spring planting, peduncles usually appear, which are immediately removed so that they do not pull strength from the still immature bush.

The Kupchikha variety loves well-lit areas, but even with a slight shade it bears fruit well. It is not advisable to plant it near fences or other buildings that will interfere with ventilation.

The merchant’s wife is susceptible to harmful bacteria that can be stored in the soil you choose for planting. Therefore, the land is disinfected and fertilized. The infection is killed with a solution of copper sulfate, and 2 buckets of humus with 2 glasses of ash are used as top dressing.

Planting stages

  1. Preparation for planting requires not only the soil, but also the seedlings themselves. To do this, they are soaked for at least an hour in a solution of Kornevin and water (in proportions of 1 ml: 5 liters).

  2. There are two landing schemes for the Merchant. They depend on the purpose of the crop – for sale or for own consumption. Cultivation on an industrial scale takes place according to the scheme 50×50 cm.For myself – 40×40 cm.The distance between the beds is 1 m.
  3. Spread the roots of the bush dugout and only then cover it with soil. The leaves and heart must remain above the ground.
  4. The final point of planting is watering and mulching. Water generously, but only on the side to protect the heart. Choose hay or sawdust as mulch.

The dredge will give you a consistently high yield for 4-5 years. If you cherish her all this time, of course.

How to water and fertilize

The soil around the bushes should always be moist. Mulch helps maintain moisture levels. If there is no rain, water it yourself. Better to water at the root. It is especially important to provide the bushes with moisture before the arrival of winter so that they can more easily endure frosts.

During the year, the dwarf is fed several times a year: in the spring – with nitrogen-mineral means; in summer (when flowering occurs) – a solution of boric acid with ash or urea; closer to cold weather – covered with organic matter (compost, for example).

Shelter for the winter

Winter hardiness in earthworms is -25 ° C. It does not require special shelter in all regions. If you have severe winters, mulch with a 20 cm layer of organic matter or agrofibre. But only after the temperature drops below the level acceptable for this culture.

Disease and insect control

The fact that a plant suffers from some kind of ailment or pest can be recognized by its appearance. The leaves in such cases dry out, become covered with specks, the berries rot. To prevent this from happening, in the spring the merchant’s bushes are treated with fungicides with copper. Systematic loosening and using Aktara before flowering will help control insects.
